Honoring Freedom Through Beauty: The Story Behind Shedavi

At Shedavi, we believe that freedom is more than just a moment in history, especially for Black women, it's a lifestyle, and the way we style our hair, the way we speak, and the way we light up rooms unapologetically. And on Juneteenth, we honor that freedom by reflecting on our roots, reclaiming our beauty, and celebrating the story that started it all.

That story begins with our founder, Elizabeth Davis.

From Blueprints to Beauty

Before creating Shedavi, founder Elizabeth Davis was building luxury properties. A proud FAMU graduate with a degree in Construction Engineering Technology, Elizabeth led multimillion-dollar construction projects for iconic clients like Porsche North America and MGM National Harbor.

But behind the scenes, something deeper was calling her. Fueled by her own desire for healthier hair and a holistic lifestyle, she began experimenting in her kitchen with natural herbs, oils, and essential ingredients rooted in centuries of global beauty traditions.

After long days on construction sites and in project meetings, she’d come home to her real passion: beauty.

“I’ve always been drawn to wellness and natural beauty,” she says. “I would spend hours researching herbs, mixing elixirs, and caring for my hair. It became my peace and my purpose.”

And just like that, her side project—rooted in curiosity and self-care—became the seed for something greater.

What started as a personal solution became a powerful movement.

The Birth of Shedavi

In 2014, Elizabeth officially registered Shedavi in the state of Georgia. Two years later, she launched with just two products: our signature Hair & Scalp Growth Elixir and Iconic Hair Growth Vitamins. That first weekend, she sold $2,000 in product: and never looked back.
