My nails are breaking. What do I do?

My nails were flourishing just a few months ago. They were long and strong and bright. It looked as if I had a french manicure when I wasn’t wearing nail polish. Then it felt like I blinked and my nails had transformed to be brittle and discolored and constantly splitting. It was disappointing to say the least.

Instead of despairing, I got to work. I am slowly bringing my nails back to a state of health. These tips are for you if you’re in a similar place on your nail journey and if you’re doing fine but want to keep your nails thriving.

Clip and File

Sometimes the best thing you can do is to create a fresh start for your nails. It can be a bummer to clip your nails if you’ve been growing them out. However, if the tips are unhealthy, they won’t look good and they won’t be doing you any good either.

You don’t need to go crazy with the clippers. Cut off the parts that look ragged or discolored. Then file and buff your nails out. Your nails will look better already.

Evaluate

Nails are often a reflection of what we’re putting into our bodies. Give yourself time to evaluate what is going into your body. Are you eating nutrient rich foods? Are you stressed? Have you been taking your Shedavi Whole Food Vitamins? All of these inputs will have a positive or a negative impact on the growth of your nails.

Rethink Routine

Beyond what you put into your body, there are small pieces of your routines that might be damaging your nails. Think through your week. Are your nails protected by gloves when you’re cleaning house or washing dishes? Do you have hair products that might be contributing to the discoloration of your nails?  How do you remove nail polish? Picking it off or using a overly strong removers can strip several layers of your nail.

By simply rethinking your routine, you can find ways to encourage rather than inhibit nail growth in your every day.
